Day older

I am a day older in case anyone was wondering. I am not dead by the way. Just have been really busy with school, work, and what little social life I have. Painting will continue and so will the blog. Also I am going to be buying the new Celtic Knight from Kabuki this week.

II Corps finished

I am happy to say that another step has been taken in the "Under 6mm Eagles" project. I just finished the last little bit of the II Corps artillery, putting the finishing touches on a Corps that I have been working on for about two months now. With this formation now complete I have not wasted to much time and launched back into finishing some more Imperial Guard Regiments before I finish off the II and IV Cavalry Corps. But as you can see my painting schedule is not as far a long as I would have hoped. But not to worry. I am doing this for the fun of it and I am in no rush to be done.

6 Batteries of Artillery.

A shot of the French I and II Corps

I will take some better pictures of the completed Corps at a later date.

This of course bring the totals up to 46 Infantry regiments, 44 Cavalry regiments, and 25 Artillery batteries. Making out for a total of well over 3100 6mm figures and 32 guns( remember skirmishers and commanders are not in this count). And guess what, I decided that it would be a smart idea to prepare more 6mm Napoleonics. In addition to the 9 regiments of Dragoons, 4 regiments of Cuirassiers, 2 regiments of light Cavalry( 1 Hussar and 1 Chasseur), 2 regiments of infantry, 8 guns, crews for 8 guns, and limbers for 8 guns I have left. I went ahead and have begun preparing 17 regiments of infantry, 13 regiments of Cavalry, 11 guns, crews for 11 guns, and limbers for 8 guns. All for the allied forces( I will explain the odd number of guns later). This still leaves me with quite a bit in raw 6mm figure left over but not as much as when I first started this blog.

Waiting to have flash cleaned off and be glued to craft sticks.

Good thing I bought more. Some how I think 150 is not enough.

Double update

I am happy to say that I have completed another installment in the Sons of the Emperor project. I have finished my Lion proxy and it was as fun painting him as I was expecting it to be. I had never painted any Dark Angels before so I had to spend a little bit of time figuring out how to paint the armor in manner that I liked. I have to say that the result is exactly what I wanted. As for the rest of this figure, it was a blast painting him. I guess I am just a really big sucker for Templar knight style power armor. I like the way he has been sculpted and posed. He looks like a real night walked out of antiquity...... wearing one of the most advanced suits of power armor out in existence, toting a genetically enhanced body that would make anyone jealous.

For the other part of this update we head over to the 6mm realm. I have also just finished the 9th French Infantry Division. It is comprised of the 92nd, 93rd, and 100th of the Line along with the 4th of the Light. This marks the completion of the last Division in the French II Corps. All that is left is for me to finish the artillery park and I will have another completed Corps. You should see something on the completion of the II Corps soon as I am even now getting ready to base the miniatures as I already have finished painting all the guns and crews.

Last little bit of news. I have also started work on my Vulkan proxy. And I would also suggest that people go check out the new Celtic Knight that Kabuki is almost ready to release. I know what I am getting for my birthday.

Christening the new place

It has been a while since I goofed off on the floor with my 6mm Napoleonics. And with good reason. I had to move out of the old place and help my roommates move all of their stuff in as well( moving the accumulated stuff of three people in one day is a pain in the neck by the way). Then I had to unpack and there was this funny thing about a new job, which is a good thing, which ate up a lot of time. Needless to say painting has continued and a shelved project has been recently unshelved and some work has been done it( I'll show you later). But now that I am all settled it is time to unveil the current state of my most advanced project.

The theme of this latest escapade is a combined Russian/Austrian rear guard action against the forward elements of the pursuing French Army. Which seems to be the reoccurring theme considering the limitations on my available allied forces. That will change eventually. I just need to stay on schedule or else bad things will happen..... like starting a new project.

On a side note doing this on hard floors really sucks.

In other news. I am almost done with my Lion proxy. Just some finishing touches to do on his base. Also I am nearly done with the II Corps. Then I can hit the rest of the II and IV Cavalry Corps plus some Guard regiments. I am also going to make the first order for miniatures that I have made in a long time. This will consist mostly of various bases that I am running out of.

Almost There

This marks the Completion of the French 7th Infantry Division. It is comprised of the 11th, 82nd, and 12th Light Regiments as well as the 4th of the Line. The 7th Division is set up in mix order with skirmishers out in front. This leaves me with only four regiments and three light batteries of artillery to go until the French II Corps is done.

Up next is the 9th Division. I am going to paint this one to be in line with skirmishers.

On the terrain front, I have also made a few more advancements thanks largely due to the ideas of Lee over at "A Napoleonic therapy project 2012". Through his own project I decided that I liked the idea of having difficult terrain tiles and I have begun making some of them using my own methods. These will be added to the terrain ideas I already have in place. In conjunction with these tiles, I have also decided how I am going to handle trees when I finally get some.

In other news. I have started painting my Lion proxy and he should be done some time soon.

6th French Infantry Division

Life has a cray way of going from simple to complicated really quickly. I just managed to get things settled at my new place when oh by the way I got a new job. Not that I am complaining or anything it just means my free time for painting has diminished again. The up side is that I will be able to start putting money into my bank account again instead of just taking money from it. So "yay" for the job.

Now for the latest update. Since I have started playing Histwar Les Grognards I have had a few ideas on the formations my 6mm figures have on their 60mm square bases. Hopefully further playing of the game will allow me to continue to come up with newer and more inventive ways of recreating a Napoleonic battle in 6mm.

Having tried out some of these new idea on the French 6th Division here is the results. This division is comprised of the 1st and 2nd of the Line and the 1st and 2nd of the Light. They are set up to have one battalion in line in the front and a second battalion in my approximation of a column in the rear. There are no skirmishers deployed for these four regiments. I plan on having them present for the next division which I have already started work on and will be based in a similar manner..

Out of Popsicle Sticks

Weird title I know but it fits. And if you tried to hazard a guess as to what I am talking about you would be correct in assuming that I have been busy preparing a lot of 6mm Napoleonics for painting. It has taken me a couple of days to get the massive number of figures I am preparing ready for actual painting. Fist finding all that I wanted to make, organizing them into regiments, washing them all, cleaning off flash, repairing any damage, gluing them to Popsicle sticks, and finally giving them a good base coat. Quite the involved process, especially when you are preparing close to a thousand figures. That, however, is not the main reason why I have not posted an update yet. I have also been in the process of getting ready to move again( Seems like I do this once a year now. Joys of college.) and because of that I have actually spent some time getting all these figures ready. Why? You may ask. Simple some of my roommates have been kind enough to leave already and as we know paint has some pretty nasty fumes. And considering that fumigating my room was not high on my list of things to do this summer, I decided to make use on one of the empty rooms at my place to let the fumes wear off.

As to the title of the post, I really am out of  Popsicle sticks. I somehow managed to have just enough Popsicle sticks available to be able to glue all the figures I base coated to. I could not have planned it better if I had tried. Here are the results so far.

The Guard infantry and the Cavalry

With all that said I have also managed to finishing painting some more troops for the French II Corps. I completed the French 5th Infantry Division right after the end of the semester. The 5th Division is comprised of the 3rd, 61st, 72nd, and 108th regiments of the Line. Next up is going to be the 6th Infantry Division. Which will be comprised of two light infantry regiments and two line regiments.

The French 5th Infantry Division

On a side note. I recently invested in Histwar: Les Grognards. It is a Real Time Strategy(RTS) game set entirely during the Napoleonic wars. I had tried out the demo about 4 years ago and for some reason I did not like it. Recently I have been looking more and more at battles from the command perspective of controlling an entire army on the field and off the field(meaning strategic or tactical command). And as such I took another look at the game and I have to say that I am really impressed with it so far. Now I have not had much of a chance to go into playing the game other than completing the Tutorials and reading the manual. But what I have seen so far is a good sign of a worthy game. The game allows a player to focus on the different aspects of controlling an army in the field. You can either just sit back and give each of your Corps a command and watch the AI hash it out. Or you can get into the nitty gritty up front command aspect of a Napoleonic battle. Considering that this game was made by a non-mainstream company it has been very well thought out. It also lacks the arcade style of games that I have seen with most RTS games of late, which makes me really happy. I may talk more about the game later. I have just not decided on that yet.

A teaser of what the game looks like.

I will have quite a few new posts over this next week. I have just finished moving and only recently got the internet working at my new place. Needless to say, work on my miniature projects has not stopped and I have several new things to show you all.

French 2nd Cavalry Division

As you can see I have started work on the French II Corps as was planned, which is something considering how easily I can be distracted. I decided to start with the cavalry first this time around because I have been painting pretty much nothing but cavalry for the last 11 regiments.

The 2nd Cavalry division contains 4 regiments; The 1st and 6th Chasseurs a Cheval regiments and the 5th and 6th Lancer regiments.

When going back and refreshing my memory on how to paint Chasseurs a Cheval, I discovered, to my displeasure, that I had painted the wrong Chassuer regiment for the French I Corps. After having discovered the error I decided that, in order to keep the I Corps a complete unit, I needed to paint a replacement regiment ASAP. Luckily from my last preparation session for 6mm Napoleonics (another of which I will have to do soon) I had an extra regiment of Chasseurs at my disposal.

3rd Chasseurs a Cheval

For those of you paying attention, you will note that I used the French Elite Light Cavalry from Baccus for these three regiments of Chasseurs a Cheval. I did this for several reasons. The first being that I had 3 extra regiments from buying cavalry regiments for the Imperial Guard and the second being that I am looking at a total of around 12 or more regiments of Chasseurs a Cheval by the time I am done with the French. Compared with 9 regiments of Hussars. Also, full told I have the option of painting up to around 30 different Chasseur regiments compared with only 11 Hussar regiments. So the need to fill up the Chasseur slots is more pressing at the moment.

Currently I have begun work on the 5th Infantry Division in the II Corps. Once that division is compete I will be preparing another large section of my stocked 6mm miniatures. I plan on preparing 12 infantry regiments (10 line and 2 Guard), 9 Dragoon regiments, 4 Cuirassier regiments, 2 Hussar, 2 Chasseur a Cheval, and somewhere around 16 guns and their crews along with 8 more limbers.

Four new Regiments

Since my last post I have been able to complete 4 new Regiments. 2 of them are cavalry and 2 of them are infantry. These four regiments complete the Middle Guard 1st Division and the Light Cavalry 1st Division of the Imperial Guard.

First up is the 1st and 2nd Regiments of Middle Guard Chassuers. This is as far as I can go in terms of infantry at this point. I have another 2 regiments of Grenadiers that I can make, the only problem is that they are not prepared. The other thing I need to figure out is how I want to make the Young Guard. I have some ideas but no firm solution at this point.

Second on the list of completed regiments is the 1st and 2nd Chassuers a Cheval of the Guard. These are the last two Light Cavalry regiments that I can make for the Guard at the moment. I have plans to add two other Guard Lancer regiments that I read about recently and a regiment of Mamelukes( if I can ever find a good figure for them) to form a 2nd Light Cavalry Division. But that will have to come later.

1st Reg of Guard Chasseurs a Cheval
2ndt Reg of Guard Chasseurs a Cheval
The completed 1st Light Cav Division

With the completing of these two regiments I have officially completed stage "1" of my current plans. This does not mean that I am done with the Guard as there is still a lot to do. What I can do as soon as I have a chance to prepare more regiments is 2 regiments of Dragoons, 2 more Grenadier regiments, and more Guard Artillery.

Here is a look at what has been done so far.

The Imperial Guard as it stands now is 4 regiments of infantry, 6 regiments of cavalry, and 2 horse artillery batteries. Plus commanders for the entire force.

As of right now I have turned all my attention (sort of) onto the development of the II Corps for the French army. I have started work on the commanders as that is where I normally get bogged down at.
At the moment I can paint 6 regiments of infantry and all the cavalry for the II Corps. That is a total of ten regiments. The only problem is that will I more than likely finish painting these troops before I have a chance to go home and prepare more figures for painting. Thus leaving me with no 6mm figures to paint.

In other news I have finally started painting my Corax figure. Not sure when he will be done. Black is a weird color to work with.

Another piece of news. I have added an OOB at the bottom of my blog page. It is not very in depth( only down to Division level) but it will allow anyone watching what I am doing to see what I have done, what I am working on, and what is to come. As a note I do not have all the figures to complete what is listed there.
